Indian team's fast bowler Mohammed Shami will not go on Australia tour. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Monday gave information on the fitness of this fast bowler and declared him unfit for the next two Tests against Australia. Recently, after the third Test match, captain Rohit Sharma had asked the officials of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) to clarify the situation on Shami's fitness and now the Indian Board has declared him unfit.

Shami was not included in the 18-member Indian team for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to a knee injury. Shami has been out of the Indian team since the ODI World Final last year and he made a comeback on the field through the Ranji Trophy. Shami is playing domestic cricket and the BCCI medical team was constantly monitoring him.

Shami has mild swelling in his knee

The BCCI has confirmed that Shami has been out of the team for a long time due to a knee injury and they hope that Shami will be fully fit soon. Giving information on Shami's fitness, the BCCI said, the BCCI Medical Team was working closely with Indian fast bowler Shami so that he could recover from the injury soon. Shami had fully recovered from the ankle injury. Shami bowled 43 overs for Bengal against Madhya Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy. Apart from this, he played all nine matches of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he joined the additional bowling session to be fit for the Test match.

The BCCI said, however, Shami had mild swelling in his left knee due to bowling workload. The swelling is at the expected level due to continuous bowling after a long time. Based on the current medical assessment, the BCCI Medical Team has determined that his knee needs more time for controlled performance of bowling load. Due to this, Shami has not been declared fit for the remaining two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Doubt over playing in Vijay Hazare Trophy

Shami did not play in Bengal's first match of Vijay Hazare Trophy against Delhi last week. BCCI has confirmed that the medical team is constantly monitoring Shami's workload and his playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy ODI tournament will depend on how quickly he recovers. BCCI said, Shami will remain under the supervision of the medical staff at the BCCI Center of Excellence and will work on his bowling workload so that he can be fit for the long format game. His playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy will depend on how quickly his knee recovers.
