Saharanpur, water of all major rivers of Saharanpur district, Krishna, Kali, Hindon and Dhamola, has become highly polluted. These rivers have almost become dead and their water is not fit for survival of aquatic life. Saharanpur's new District Magistrate Manish Bansal, who has earned fame as DM by reviving 130 km long dead Soti river in Sambhal district, has prepared an action plan for different rivers taking cognizance of NGT's instructions to revive the rivers here and has talked to experts and water management specialists. He has assured the environmentalists that he will make every effort to revive all the major dead and poisonous rivers of Saharanpur through all possible resources, technology and public cooperation. He told today that under the leadership of SDM Nakur Sangeeta Raghav, the Revenue Department has started a campaign to remove encroachment from the area of the 75-year-old Sindhali river which has become extinct in the Nakur area. All these rivers of the district are tributaries of Yamuna and till three decades ago, there was sufficient water flow in them and the water was also clean and clear. The aquatic animals were visible migrating and the surrounding fields were well irrigated with their water. But due to climate change, the size of the glaciers on the Himalayan hills has shrunk. Due to pollution and increasing temperature, the glaciers are melting quickly, due to which these rivers are not getting water as per their capacity and due to the polluted water of drains and industrial units falling into these rivers, they have lost their identity as life-giving rivers and have died themselves and due to their polluted water, the existence of the animals living in them is also in danger.
