India has said in the United Nations that religious discrimination is a big challenge and it is affecting all religious beliefs. A resolution was presented against Islamophobia in the United Nations. India's Permanent Representative to the United Nations P Harish said this during the discussion on this resolution. India supported the resolution, but said that religious discrimination is wrong not only against Islam but against any religion.

India has been a land of diversity for centuries

P Harish said that 'India has been a land of diversity and pluralism, where people of every major religion of the world live. India has been the birthplace of four major religions of the world, including Sanatan Dharma, Buddhism, Jainism and Sikhism. About 20 crore Muslims live in India and it is one of the countries with the highest Muslim population in the world.' He said that we condemn religious discrimination against Muslims and are with the countries of the United Nations in this matter, but it is also important to believe that religious discrimination is a big challenge and it affects people of all religions in the world.

'Need to respect all religions equally'

P Harish said during his address that Holi and Ramzan are being celebrated together in India and he also wished for both the festivals. P Harish said that 'India also expressed concern over the incidents of attack on places of worship and said that these can be avoided only when all member countries respect all religions equally and do not discriminate between people of different religions. Also, conservatism and fundamentalism should not be given place in the education system.' It is worth noting that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, a group of Islamic countries, presented a proposal against Islamophobia. In which a demand has been made to celebrate 'International Day to Fight Islamophobia' on March 15 in the direction of fighting Islamophobia. The resolution states that terrorism and radicalism should not be associated with any religion, nationality or ethnic group.
