Anuppur, SECL Bilaspur Welfare Committee team reached Kotma Kalari Guest House of SECL Yamuna Kotma area on the evening of 26 June 2025 for a two-day inspection. The members of the Welfare Committee had to inspect the cleanliness of all the colonies of Yamuna Kotma area, the condition of Kalari houses and other problems of Kalari workers on 26 and 27 June and submit the ground reality report to the senior officers sitting in SECL Bilaspur, but the team of Welfare Committee that reached here, only held a meeting, had food and drinks in the guest house and completed the formality of inspection and left with an envelope and gift.

Picnic and fun in the name of inspection
The SECL Bilaspur Welfare Committee members who had come to inspect the colonies of Jamuna Kotma area, limited themselves to picnic and partying in the Kotma Colliery Guest House in the name of inspection. It is said that the committee members had a lot of fun in the guest house on the night of 26 June and by holding a meeting at 10:00 am on 27 June, the entire inspection program was wrapped up and they left the colliery workers and their colony in a bad condition.

What is the welfare committee and who are the people involved

The Welfare Committee has been formed in SECL company so that from time to time this committee visits the coal mines in their area and listens to their problems and their ground reality and report is presented before the senior officers of the company so that the problems can be solved and the shortcomings can be rectified. Representatives of all labour organisations are included in this committee. Apart from this, officials of SECL company are also included in this committee under whose supervision annual inspection and report of the colony of Kalari workers and their living conditions and other problems has to be done but the committee that reached here has spoiled the plans of all.

The area is full of filth and disorder

The broken drains and roads and dilapidated Kalari housing are worth seeing the heaps of filth at various places in which SECL employees are forced to live a hellish life but the welfare committee formed to look into and listen to their problems, the price of the hard work of the workers was wasted on two glasses of alcohol. During the meeting, such arrangements were made by the management of Yamuna Kotma area that even the members of the welfare board could not open their mouth and the news of them leaving quietly after taking their share is coming to the fore. Overall, the result of this inspection was the same.
