New Delhi, The work of manufacturing Apple iPhone in India will soon be in the hands of Tata Group. Tata Group has acquired Wistron Infocom Manufacturing India, the iPhone manufacturing company in India. This acquisition has been approved by the board of directors of Wistron Corp, the parent company of Wistron Infocom. Electronics and Technology Minister Rajiv Chandrashekhar gave this information on social media on Friday. He said that Tata Group will start manufacturing iPhones in India for domestic and global markets within two and a half years.

Currently, Wistron's Indian plant is manufacturing iPhone-12 and iPhone-14 in its 8 production lines. After Tata's acquisition, Wistron will be completely out of the Indian market, as it is the only plant of the company producing Apple products in India.

Talks were going on for a year

Wistron factory is in Southeast of Karnataka. According to a report, by March 2024, Wistron will make Apple iPhones worth about $ 1.8 billion from this factory. Tata will manufacture iPhone 15 for the global market in this factory. The valuation of Wistron factory is around 600 million dollars. Talks regarding this deal were going on for about a year.

Wistron came to India in 2008

Taiwanese company Wistron entered the Indian market in 2008. Initially the company used to provide repair facilities for many devices. In the year 2017, the company expanded its operations and started production of iPhones for Apple. Of the three Taiwanese firms that assemble Apple products, only Wistron is leaving India. Whereas, Foxconn and Pegatron have increased their production lines in India.
